Motorola MIN is a local magic jack working number

I was recently made aware of my cell phone's MIN number being switched to a Magic Jack working phone number. A few of my contacts were switched to different names on my contacts list and the phone was just doing strange things in general. I'm wondering if anyone has ever heard of this and what purpose it might serve?
