Easy Ways to Transfer Contacts from an iPhone to the Samsung Galaxy SIII Slim

Transferring Contacts Using iTunes:

Apple's iTunes can be used for more than playing your favorite music, as the software is capable of syncing data from your iPhone to your Google account. By doing so, you can easily transfer your iPhone contacts over to an Android device, such as the Galaxy S3 Slim. Transferred contacts include their image, contact notes and any other available details. For this method, you are required to have access to a computer with Internet, and iTunes installed.

  1. Launch iTunes on your PC

  2. Connect your iPhone to the computer via USB

  3. After it connects, the iPhone will appear in iTunes. Click on the device to view its summary page

  4. Access the "Info" tab

  5. Mark the "Sync Contacts With" check box and choose "Google Contacts" from the drop-down menu

  6. Register your Google account in iTunes, if you haven't done this before. Otherwise, you can click "Configure" and choose an existing account

  7. Click "Apply" and the syncing process will commence

  8. On your Galaxy device, register the same account as the one used in iTunes. If you need to add the account, go to "Settings" > "Accounts"

  9. Set the Google account so that it can sync contacts with your Samsung phone

Transferring Contacts Using iCloud:

The iCloud service offers the possibility to compile and export contacts in the form of a vCard file, ready to be imported on your Android device. In case you've used the iCloud backup service before, your iPhone contacts should already be backed up on your iCloud account. For this approach, you need a computer with Internet access.

  1. Launch the Internet browser on your computer

  2. Visit https://www.icloud.com/ and log in with your account

  3. Click "Contacts"

  4. From the list, select the contacts that you want to share

  5. When ready, click the button shaped like a cog wheel, located in the bottom-left area

  6. Select "Export vCard" and wait for your computer to download the VCF file

  7. Import the file to "Google Contacts", or connect your S3 Slim to your computer via USB, copy the VCF file to the "sdcard" directory, and launch the "People" application. From there, press "Menu" > "Import / Export" > "Import from SD card", then pick an account and select the vCard file you've just copied

Transferring Contacts Through "My Contacts Backup":

In case you need to transfer your iPhone contacts without accessing a computer, then you can rely on third party applications in order to do so. "My Contacts Backup" is an iOS app that allows you to backup and transfer all of your iPhone contacts to an Android device via email. To do this:

  1. Install "My Contacts Backup" on your iPhone, via the App Store

  2. Open the application and tap "Backup"

  3. After the backup file is created, tap "Email" to attach it to a new email

  4. Send the email containing the VCF file to your own Gmail address

  5. On the Galaxy S3 Slim, open the email and download the vCard attachment

  6. Launch the "People" app, press "Menu" > "Import / Export", and import the VCF file's contents to your phonebook

Transferring Contacts Through "Send Anywhere":

Another third party app that you can use for contact (and file) transfer is "Send Anywhere". This is an iOS and Android application that transfers contacts through a P2P connection, so a computer is not required.

  1. From the App Store, install "Send Anywhere" on your iPhone

  2. From the Google Play Store, download the app on the Galaxy S3 Slim

  3. Launch the application on both smartphones

  4. Pick up the sender device (the iPhone) and tap "Send"

  5. Tap "Contacts" and mark the contacts that you wish to share

  6. When ready, tap "Send"

  7. Choose a method of transferring your contacts. By selecting "Generate QR Code", you can generate a code which can be scanned with your Galaxy S3 Slim's camera. On the Galaxy S3 Slim, you can also tap "Receive" and input the transfer code that has been randomly generated on the iPhone
