How-to: Manage Security Features on the LG G2 – Device Lock, PUK and SIM-PIN

Device Lock Options



Changing the Device Lock Option:




  1. While on the home screen, press the "Menu" button

  2. Tap "Lock screen settings"

  3. Tap "Select screen lock" and choose one of the following lock methods:


    • Swipe:


      1. Tap "Screen swipe effect"

      2. Select the desired swipe effect



    • Face Unlock:


      1. Review the instructions and tap "Set it up"

      2. Tap "Continue"

      3. Capture your face with the front-facing camera

      4. Tap "Continue"

      5. Select a backup unlock method



    • Pattern:


      1. Press "Next"

      2. Draw the desired unlock pattern

      3. Tap "Continue" and draw the pattern again, then tap "Confirm"

      4. Press "Next"

      5. Enter the desired "backup PIN" code and tap "Continue"

      6. Enter backup PIN twice, then tap "OK"



    • PIN:


      1. Type in a PIN number

      2. Tap "Continue" and enter the PIN number again for confirmation

      3. Tap "OK"



    • Password:


      1. Enter a password and tap "Continue"

      2. Reenter the password for confirmation

      3. Tap "OK"








Disabling Device Lock:




  1. From any of the home screens, press the "Menu" button

  2. Select "Lock screen settings"

  3. Tap "Select screen lock"

  4. Enter your PIN or Password

  5. Select "None"






PUK Code Management



PUK Code Unlock:



Related errors:


  • "PIN code blocked. Enter PUK code"

  • "Enter PUK code"

  • "SIM card locked. Emergency calls only. Please contact Customer Care"




In case you have entered your SIM card PIN incorrectly for several times in a row, your device will block you from attempting again. To unblock the PIN, you'll need to enter the PUK code. To do so:




  1. Contact your carrier's customer support for your PUK code

  2. Once the message "SIM card is PUK-Locked. Please contact Customer Care" appears on the screen, tap "Emergency Call"

  3. Type in the following string: "**05*PUK*New PIN*New PIN#" (Without the quotes, and where "PUK" is the PUK code obtained by calling customer support, and where "New PIN" is your SIM card's new PIN)

  4. Tap "OK" and follow any additional on-screen prompts






SIM PIN Management



Changing the SIM PIN:




  1. While viewing any of the home screen, press the "Menu" button

  2. Select "System settings"

  3. Go to the "General" tab

  4. Scroll down to "Personal" and then tap "Security"

  5. Tap "Set up SIM card lock"

  6. If necessary, mark the "Lock SIM card" check box, then enter your current SIM PIN and tap "OK"

  7. Tap "Change SIM PIN"

  8. Type in the current SIM PIN. (Note: by default, the SIM PIN is usually "1234" or "0000")

  9. Tap "OK"

  10. Type in the new SIM PIN and press "OK"

  11. Re-enter the new SIM PIN and tap "OK" again




Enabling / Disabling the SIM PIN:




  1. From any of the home screens, press the "Menu" button

  2. Select "System settings"

  3. Tap "Security" under "Personal"

  4. Tap "Set up SIM card lock"

  5. Check or uncheck the "Lock SIM card" check box

  6. Enter the "SIM PIN" and then press "OK"
