How-to: Restore Apps, Contacts and Media Files on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Restoring Applications:




  1. If necessary, log into your Google account

  2. While on the home screen, press the "Menu" button

  3. Tap "Settings" and go to the "General" tab

  4. Press "Accounts"

  5. Tap "Google" and select your email address

  6. Mark the check boxes associated with the back up categories that you wish to restore

  7. Tap "Sync now"




Restoring Contacts



Restoring Contacts from Your Google or Samsung Account:




  1. Log into your Google or Samsung account

  2. From the home screen, press the "Menu" button

  3. Select "Settings"

  4. Tap the "General" tab

  5. Go to "Accounts" and tap "Google" or "Samsung"

  6. Tap your email address located at the top of the screen

  7. Mark the check box associated with "Sync contacts"

  8. Tap "Sync now"




Restoring Contacts from the SD Card:




  1. Make sure that the SD card containing the contacts back up is inserted in your device

  2. While on the home screen, tap "Contacts"

  3. Go to the "Contacts" tab

  4. Press the "Menu" button and select "Import / Export"

  5. Tap "Import from SD card"

  6. Select the account where you wish to save the contacts

  7. Tap "Import vCard file" and then press "OK"

  8. Select the desired vCard file where the files are to be stored, then press "OK"




Restoring Media Files and Pictures



Restoring Media Files Using Your Device:




  1. From any of the home screens, press "Apps"

  2. Tap the "Samsung" bundle

  3. Tap "My Files" > "Device memory"

  4. Locate the folder containing the desired media or pictures

  5. Press the "Menu" button and tap "Select item". Then, mark the check box associated with the desired files or folders

  6. Press the "Menu" button and select "Copy"

  7. Tap "SD memory card" to enter the device's internal memory

  8. Navigate to where you wish to restore the files, then tap "Move here"




Restoring Media Files Using Your PC (Windows):




  1. Connect your smartphone to your PC using the USB cable that came with your handset

  2. If necessary, tap and drag the "Status" bar down, then tap "Connected as a media device" and mark the "Media device" check box

  3. On your computer, click "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer"

  4. Navigate to the desired folder on your handset. Note: the "Card" icon represents your smartphone's SD storage, whereas the "Phone" icon represents your handset's on-board storage

  5. Drag the back-up files from your computer and drop them in the desired folder on your phone

  6. Once finished, safely disconnect your phone from your PC




Restoring Media Files Using Your Computer (Mac):




  1. Connect your smartphone to your Mac computer using the USB cable

  2. If necessary, tap and drag the "Status" bar down, then tap "Connect as a media device" and mark the "Media device" check box

  3. On your Mac, open Samsung Kies

  4. In Kies, click the "Back up / restore" tab

  5. If necessary, go to the "Restore" tab

  6. Click the check boxes associated with "Music" and "Photo" (and any other categories that you wish to restore)

  7. Click "Restore" and if necessary, follow any additional prompts

  8. Once finished, safely disconnect your phone from your Mac computer
