Approached by someone wanting to pay me to buy cell phones for him.

A man approached me and said if I was approved for service for AT&T he would pay for the phones, I think he wanted six of them, and he'd give me three hundred dollars to do it. I said no, of course, but he wouldn't let it go until I finally just walked away. He had to be up to something, but I couldn't find any info about this type of scam anywhere.
