Samsung Galaxy V: Restore Apps, Contacts and Media Files

Restore Applications:




  1. Sign in to your Google account on your smartphone

  2. From the home screen, press "Menu"

  3. Tap "Settings" and access the "Accounts" tab

  4. Tap "Google" and then tap "Sync All"

  5. Press the "Back" key and tap "Backup and reset"

  6. Mark / clear the check boxes associated with "Backup my data" and "Automatic restore"




Restoring Contacts



From a Samsung or Google Account:




  1. From any of the home screens, press "Menu"

  2. Go to "Settings" and access the "Accounts" tab

  3. Select "Google" or "Samsung" depending on the type of account you've used for the backup

  4. Tap your "email address" located at the top of the screen

  5. Mark the "Sync Contacts" check box, or if the box is already checked, tap "Sync now"




From the SD Card:




  1. Ensure that the SD card containing the VCF file is properly installed on your phone

  2. Launch the "Contacts" application

  3. Press "Menu", tap "Contacts to display" and select "All contacts"

  4. Press "Menu" and then tap "Import / Export"

  5. Tap "Import from SD card" and follow the on-screen instructions to browse for and load the VCF file containing the backed up contacts




Restoring Media Files



From the SD Card:




  1. Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen

  2. Launch "My Files" and tap "All files"

  3. Tap "SD card" and locate the files you wish to restore

  4. Tap and hold an item that you wish to restore and select "Move"

  5. The phone will now display the available memory locations. Tap "Create new" or the folder name to save the file to a different location

  6. When ready, tap "Move here"




From a Windows Computer:




  1. Connect your Samsung Galaxy V to a Windows computer via USB

  2. Swipe the "Status" bar down and mark the "Media device" check box if necessary

  3. On the computer, click "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer" in the AutoPlay window

  4. Open a second Windows Explorer window on your computer and navigate to the backed up files on your hard drive

  5. Copy the files, and paste them on your phone's storage

  6. After the transfer is done, safely disconnect your Galaxy V from the computer




Using a Mac Computer:




  1. Use the USB cable to connect your Galaxy V to the Mac computer

  2. If necessary, swipe the "Status" bar down and mark the "Media device" check box

  3. Launch Kies on the Mac and click the "Back up / restore" tab

  4. In Kies, click the "Restore" tab and mark the check boxes associated with "Music", "Photo" and other types of media files you wish to restore. NOTE: optionally you can click "Select all items"

  5. Click "Restore" and if necessary, follow any additional on-screen prompts that may follow

  6. Once the transfer is done, eject the phone's storage from the Mac's desktop, and safely disconnect your smartphone from the USB connector
