Samsung Galaxy Grand Max: Clear App Cache / Wipe Cache Partition; Reboot in Safe Mode

Clearing App Cache or Data:



NOTE: If an application installed on your phone is causing issues, it freezes, crashes etc. then you might be able to fix these problems by clearing the app’s cache or data.



WARNING! Clearing an app’s data will delete all personal information stored within the app, including credit card information, log in credentials, saved games, profiles, high scores and so on. As such, it’s recommended to first try fixing the issues by clear the app’s cache.




  1. Tap "Apps" > "Settings"

  2. Access "Applications" and tap "Application manager"

  3. Go to the "Downloaded" or "All" screen

  4. Choose the desired application and tap "Clear cache"

  5. Optionally, select the app and tap "Clear data" > "OK"




Wiping the Phone's Cache Partition:



NOTE: In case your smartphone crashes, freezes or simply doesn't work as intended, then you might be able to fix these problems by wiping the phone's cache. This is a recommended step before factory resetting your device, as it might fix various issues without removing personal data from the phone. To wipe the cache partition:




  1. Turn off your smartphone

  2. Press and hold the "Power", "Volume Up" and "Home" buttons at the same time

  3. When you see the "Android System Recovery" screen, release all hardware keys

  4. From the recovery menu, press "Volume down" until you highlight "Wipe cache partition"

  5. With the option highlighted, press "Power" to select it

  6. After the cache partition is wiped, "Reboot system now" should be highlighted

  7. Press "Power" to reboot your smartphone

Rebooting in Safe Mode:



NOTE: if you wish to remove an application that prevents you from uninstalling it, then you can easily dispose of it by rebooting your phone in Safe mode. In this mode all 3rd party applications are disabled, and whatever process prevented the app from uninstalling / closing will no longer run. To reboot in safe mode and remove an app:




  1. Turn off your smartphone

  2. Press and hold "Power"

  3. When the "Samsung" splash screen pops-up, release the "Power" button and immediately press and hold "Volume down" instead

  4. Keep pressing "Volume down" until the smartphone finishes rebooting

  5. Once it reboots, a "Safe Mode" message should be displayed in the lower-left area of the screen

  6. Next, tap "Apps" from the home screen and go to "Settings"

  7. Tap "Applications" > "Application manager"

  8. Swipe to the "Downloaded" screen and select the app you wish to remove

  9. Tap "Uninstall" and then press "OK" to confirm

  10. To exit safe mode, simply reboot your phone as you normally would
