Samsung Galaxy Grand Max: Restore Apps, Contacts and Media

Restore Apps:




  1. Sign in with your Google or Samsung account, depending on the type used for the backup

  2. Tap "Apps" from the home screen and go to "Settings"

  3. Swipe to "User and Backup", and tap "Accounts"

  4. Tap "Samsung" or "Google" and then tap your "email address" at the top of the screen

  5. Tap "Sync All" to restore your apps

  6. Press "Back" to go back to the "User and Backup" screen

  7. Tap "Backup and reset"

  8. Clear the check boxes next to "Back up my data" and "Automatic restore", found under "Backup and Restore"




Restore Contacts



From a Samsung or Google account:




  1. On the smartphone, sign in with your Google or Samsung account

  2. Go to the phone's "Settings" menu

  3. Swipe to "User and Backup" and then tap "Accounts"

  4. Choose either "Google" or "Samsung", and then tap the "email address" at the top

  5. Mark the check box associated with "Sync Contacts" if necessary

  6. Tap "Sync now"




From the SD Card:




  1. Ensure that the SD card containing the backup file is installed on the phone

  2. Open the apps drawer and go to "Settings"

  3. Swipe to "Applications", tap "Contacts" > "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"

  4. Tap "Import / Export" and select to "Import from SD card"

  5. Perform any additional on-screen steps to restore the backup file containing your contacts




Restore Media Files



From the SD Card:




  1. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen

  2. Open the "My Files" application

  3. Tap "All Files" > "SD Card" and press "Menu"

  4. Tap "Select" and check the boxes associated with the media files you want to restore

  5. Press "Menu" and tap "Move"

  6. Tap "Device storage" > "Move here"

  7. To move the media files in a different location you can tap "Create folder" or the folder's name




From a Windows PC:




  1. Establish a USB connection between the Galaxy Grand Max and computer

  2. Swipe the "Notification" bar down and mark the "Media device (MTP)" check box if necessary

  3. From the AutoPlay window on the computer, click "Open device to view files"

  4. Go to the SD card directory

  5. Open a second Windows Explorer window and navigate to the backed up files on your HDD

  6. Copy the files and transfer them to the SD Card to restore them

  7. Once the process is complete, click the "Mass Storage Device" icon in the system tray, eject the phone's storage and safely disconnect it from the computer




From a Mac Computer:




  1. Connect the Galaxy Grand Max to your Mac

  2. Swipe the "Status" bar down and if necessary, enable "Media Device (MTP)"

  3. On your Mac, launch Kies

  4. Click the "Back up / restore" tab

  5. Click the "Restore" tab and mark the check boxes associated with "Music", "Photos" and other types of devices you want to restore

  6. Click "Restore" and follow the on-screen instructions

  7. Once the process is done, eject the phone's storage and safely disconnect the device from your Mac
