How-to: Browse the Web and Manage Internet Connections on the Nokia Lumia 1020

Defining Internet Connections:




  1. On the Start screen, swipe left

  2. Tap "Settings"

  3. Go to "Wi-Fi"

  4. Make sure that "Wi-Fi networking" is enabled

  5. Select the connection that you wish to use





  • To use a mobile data connection:




    1. On the Start screen, swipe left and go to "Settings"

    2. Tap "cellular"

    3. Switch "Data connection" to "On"




  • To use a mobile data connection when roaming:



    Note: connecting to the internet while roaming can raise your expenses substantially, especially when abroad!




    1. Swipe left on the Start screen

    2. Go to "Settings"

    3. Select "cellular"

    4. Switch "Data roaming options" to "roam"








Internet Browser



Browsing the Web:




  1. Tap the "Internet Explorer" tile on the Start screen

  2. Tap the "address bar"

  3. Type in the desired web address and tap "Go" (the icon depicting an arrow pointing right)




Tips: To zoom a web page in or out, pinch or spread two fingers on the screen. You can also double-tap the screen



Opening a New Tab:




  1. Tap the "Internet Explorer" tile

  2. Tap the "menu" icon depicted as three horizontal dots, then press "tabs" and tap the "+" icon

  3. To switch between tabs, tap the "menu" icon > "tabs" and select a tab

  4. To close a tab, tap "menu" > "tabs" and tap the "X" button associated with the tab that you wish to close




Adding a Website to Favorites:




  1. Touch the "Internet Explorer" tile located on the Start screen

  2. Visit the desired website

  3. Tap the "menu" icon

  4. Tap "add to favorites".




Tips: You can pin your favorite websites to the Start screen, by pressing the "menu" icon and selecting "pin to start". You can also quickly access your favorites by adding the favorites icon to the address bar. To do so, tap the "menu" icon > "settings" > "Use address bar button for" > "favorites"



Sharing a Web Page:




  1. Make sure that "tap+send" is enabled. (Swipe left on the Start screen > "Settings" > "tap+send" and tap the "NFC sharing" switch to bring it in the "On" position)

  2. Tap the "Internet Explorer" tile on the Start screen

  3. Access the desired website

  4. Tap the "menu" icon, then tap "share page" > "tap+send"

  5. Touch the other phone with your phone to share the website via NFC




Note: to share the webpage via email, text message or a social network, tap the "menu" icon while browsing, then tap "share page" and select the desired method of sharing



Clearing the Browser History:




  1. Tap the "Internet Explorer" tile located on the Start screen

  2. Tap the "menu" icon (3 horizontal dots)

  3. Tap "Settings" > "delete history"




Tip: To delete an individual item from your browsing history, tap "menu" > "recent" > tap the "list" icon then select the item that you wish to delete and tap the "trash can" icon



Closing All Internet Connections:




  1. On the Start screen, swipe left and go to "Settings"

  2. Tap "Wi-Fi" and disable "Wi-Fi networking"




To close a mobile data connection:




  1. Swipe left on the Start screen, tap "Settings" > "cellular"

  2. Switch the "Data connection" slider to "off"
