How-to: Message (SMS / MMS) on the Nokia Lumia 1020 – Send, Read, Reply, Chat and More

Envoi d'un message:

1. On the Start screen, tap the "Messaging" tile


2. Tap the "+" icon


3. Press "+" to add a recipient from your contact list. You can also write the name of the recipient, or the phone number assuming that the contact is not saved on your device. Note: to add several recipients, tap "+" and then the "list" icon > select the recipients and tap "done"


4. Tap the message box and write your message.


5. To add an attachment, tap the "attach" icon and add a file. Note: You can also take a picture and add it as an attachment by tapping the "camera" icon


6. Tap "send" when you wish to send the message

Sending a Message to a Group:

1. Tap the "People" tile on the Start screen


2. Tap the desired group and then select "text"


3. Write the message and send it

Reading a Message:

1. After receiving a message, tap the "Messaging" tile on the Start screen


2. Tap the conversation containing the message in order to read it


3. To save an attachment, touch the attached file and then press the "menu" icon (depicted as three horizontal dots) > "save to phone"


4. To delete a conversation, tap the "list" icon on "threads", tap the conversation that you wish to delete and tap the "trash can" icon


5. To delete all messages, tap the "list" icon > "menu" > "select all" and tap the "trash can" icon

Replying to / Forwarding a Message:

1. Tap the "Messaging" tile on the Start screen


2. In threads, select the conversation containing the message that you wish to reply to


3. Write your message in the "message box"


4. Tap "Send" when ready


5. To forward a message, tap and hold it then select "forward" and optionally, edit the message. Tap "Send" when ready

Sending Your Location in a Message:

1. While writing a text message, tap the "attach" icon depicting a paperclip


2. Select "my location"


3. Tap "Send" when ready

Sending an Audio Message:

1. When writing the message, tap "attach"


2. Select "voice note"


3. Record the message that you wish to send and tap "done"


4. Tap "Send" when ready

Chatting With Your Friends:



Note: in order to use this feature you need to have a Microsoft account. You also need to set up a chat service. To do so:

1. Tap "Messaging" on the Start screen


2. Swipe to "online" and then follow the on-screen instructions

To Use the Chat Service:

1. Tap the "Messaging" tile located on the Start screen


2. Tap the "+" icon


3. Touch the "+" icon again to add a recipient from your contacts list.


4. Tap the contact's account to start chatting


5. Write your message in the message box and tap "Send" when ready
