Samsung Galaxy Star 2: Factory Reset and Update the OS

WARNING! After you reset your smartphone, all settings will be restored to factory values and all personal data stored on the internal memory will be deleted. This includes custom ringtones, downloaded content, apps, images, contacts etc. However, data stored on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected

Master Resetting via the Settings Menu:




  1. While on the home screen, tap "Apps"

  2. Access the phone's "Settings" menu

  3. Go to "User and Backup" or "Accounts", and tap "Backup and reset"

  4. Optionally, clear the check boxes next to "Automatic restore" and "Back up my data"

  5. Tap "Factory data reset" followed by "reset device"

  6. In case your handset is PIN / Password / Pattern protected, enter the necessary info and tap "OK"

  7. Tap "Delete all" to confirm




Master Resetting via Hardware Keys (Recovery Menu):



NOTE: Assuming that your handset prevents you from applying a factory reset via the settings menu (as explained above), then you can reset the handset by using a combination of keys.




  1. Turn off your smartphone

  2. Press and hold the "Home", "Volume Up" and "Power" buttons simultaneously

  3. After the phone vibrates, release the "Power" button but continue holding the other two keys

  4. At the Android System Recovery screen, release the "Volume Up" and "Home" keys as well

  5. From the Recovery menu, press "Volume down" to navigate to and highlight "wipe data / factory reset"

  6. Press "Power" to select the highlighted option

  7. Press "Volume down" again and select "delete all user data"

  8. Press "Power" and wait for the smartphone to apply the master reset

  9. Once the process is complete, "Reboot system now" will be highlighted

  10. Lastly, press the "Power" key one more time in order to reboot your smartphone




Updating Your Smartphone:



NOTE: Once you factory reset your smartphone, all software updates that have been applied before the master reset will also be lost. After resetting the device, it's highly recommended that you apply the latest available software updates. To do this:




  1. From any of the home screens, tap "Apps"

  2. Go to "Settings" and swipe to "System"

  3. Tap "About device" > "Software update"

  4. Press "Check now"

  5. Follow the self-explanatory on-screen steps to download and apply the update
