Backing Up Media Files via a Mac Computer:
NOTE: Assuming that Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac, then you need to skip the first 2 steps
- Tap "Apps" from any of the home screens
- Tap "Settings" and swipe to "User and Backup"
- Tap "Backup and reset" and sign in with your Google account if necessary. (NOTE: if you need to add an account, tap "Backup account" > "Add account"
- If necessary, mark the check boxes associated with "Backup account" and "Backup my data"
Contact Backup
Backing Up Contacts Using a Google or Samsung Account:
- Launch the "Contacts" app
- Go to "Settings" and then tap "Merge accounts"
- Tap "Google" > "Samsung account"
- Press "OK" and the contacts will be merged
Backing Up Contacts on the SD Card:
- Make sure a microSD card is installed on your Galaxy Ring 2
- From any of the home screens, tap "Apps" and go to "Settings"
- Swipe to "Applications" and tap "Contacts"
- Tap "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
- Tap "Import / Export" and select "Export to SD card"
- Make sure you remember the backup file's name for future use, and tap "OK"
Media File Backup
Backing Up Media Files on the Phone's Storage:
- Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen. (Make sure an SD card is installed)
- Open the "My Files" application
- Swipe to "Local storage" and then tap "Device storage"
- Press "Menu" > "Select"
- Locate the desired files and folders. Usually, media files are found in the "DCIM", "Ringtones", "Downloads", "Music" folders etc.
- Mark the check boxes associated with the desired files
- Press "Menu" and tap "Copy"
- Tap "SD card" and navigate to where you wish to back up the files
- Once there, tap "Paste here"
Using a Windows PC to Back Up Your Media Files:
- Connect the Samsung Galaxy Star 2 to your computer via USB
- Swipe the "Status" bar down
- Tap "Connected as media device" and mark the "Media device (MTP)" check box
- In the AutoPlay window on the computer, click "Open device to view files"
- Locate the desired media files stored on your smartphone, and copy them
- Navigate to where you wish to back up the files on your computer, and paste the files in the desired location
- Once the transfer is complete, click the "removable storage device" icon from the system tray and safely disconnect your smartphone
Backing Up Media Files via a Mac Computer:
NOTE: Assuming that Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac, then you need to skip the first 2 steps
- Open the Internet browser on your Mac and navigate to Kies
- Click "Download for Mac OS" and install Kies on your Mac
- With Kies installed, connect the Galaxy Star 2 to the Mac via USB
- From the home screen, swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device"
- Tap "Media device (MTP)" to mark the check box
- Launch Kies on the Mac and click the "Back up / Restore" tab
- Click the "Backup" tab and mark the check boxes next to "Photo" and "Music". Optionally, click "Select all items"
- When you're ready to proceed, click "Backup"
- After the process is complete, safely disconnect your smartphone from the Mac, by ejecting the removable drive from the desktop
