Samsung Galaxy Star 2: Clear App / Phone Cache; Reboot in Safe Mode

Clearing an Application's Cache / Data:



NOTE: In case one of your applications isn't working properly, then you may be able to fix these issues by clearing the app's cache and / or data.



WARNING! Clearing an app's data will result in the deletion of personal information stored within the application. This includes saved games, high scores, profiles, credit card information etc. As such, it's highly advised that you first try fixing the issues by clearing the app's cache.




  1. From the home screen, press "Menu"

  2. Tap "Settings" and go to the "More" or "Applications" tab

  3. Tap "Application manager"

  4. Swipe to the "Downloaded" or "All" screen

  5. Select the desired app and tap "Clear cache"

  6. If clearing the cache hasn't solved the issues, tap "Clear data" > "OK"




Clearing the Phone's Cache Partition:



NOTE: If your smartphone is acting up, it freezes, crashes etc. then you may be able to fix these problems by factory resetting your device. However, before applying a master reset, you may want to clear the phone's cache partition first. Unlike a master reset, clearing the cache won't result in the deletion of personal data. To clear the phone's cache partition:




  1. Turn off your Star 2

  2. Press and hold the "Volume Up", "Home" and "Power" keys simultaneously

  3. After the phone vibrates, release the "Power" key but continue pressing the other two buttons

  4. Once the Android System Recovery menu appears, release all hardware keys

  5. Use the "Volume Down" button to navigate to and highlight "wipe cache partition"

  6. Press "Power" to select the highlighted option

  7. When the "Reboot system now" option gets highlighted, press "Power" and wait for your smartphone to reboot

Enabling Safe Mode and Uninstalling Apps:



NOTE: If you've installed a malicious third party application on your Star 2 that prevents you from uninstalling it while running processes in the background, then "Safe Mode" is your friend. In Safe mode, all third party apps are disabled. To reboot your device in safe mode and uninstall an app:




  1. Power off your smartphone

  2. Press and hold the "Power" key

  3. At the "Samsung" splash screen, let go of the "Power" button and immediately press "Volume Down" instead

  4. Once your handset finishes rebooting, release the "Volume down" key

  5. After the restart, a "Safe mode" label should be present in the lower-left corner of the screen

  6. To remove an app while in safe mode, open the apps drawer

  7. Tap "Settings" > "Applications" > "Application manager"

  8. Go to the "Downloaded" tab

  9. Select the desired app and press "uninstall"

  10. Tap "OK" to confirm

  11. To exit safe mode, press and hold the "Power" button and tap "Restart"
