Backing Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:
Backing Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:
NOTE: Skip the first 2 steps if Kies is already installed on the Mac:
- Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen
- Tap "Settings"
- Under "User and Backup", tap "Backup and reset"
- You need to be signed in to a Google account before backing up your apps. If necessary, tap "Backup account" > "Add account" and follow the on-screen prompts
- If necessary, mark the check boxes associated with "Backup my data" and "Backup account"
Contact Backup
Backing Up Contacts on a Samsung or Google Account:
- Launch the "Contacts" app
- Tap the "Settings" icon
- Tap "Merge accounts" and select "Google" or "Samsung account"
- Tap "OK" to merge the contacts on your phone with your selected account
Backing Up Contacts on the SD Card:
- Insert your SD Card if necessary
- Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
- Go to "Settings" and scroll to "Applications"
- Tap "Contacts" > "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
- Tap "Import / Export" > "Export to SD Card"
- Press "OK" to confirm
- Remember or write down the backup file's name for future use
Media File Backup
Using Your Smartphone (SD Card):
- Tap "Apps" on the home screen
- Launch "My Files"
- Scroll to "Local Storage" and tap "Device storage"
- Tap the "Menu" icon located in the top-right corner
- Tap "Select" and locate the desired files. NOTE: media files are usually found in folders such as "DCIM", "Music", "Downloads" etc.
- Mark the check boxes associated with the items you wish to back up
- Tap the "Menu" icon and select "Copy" > "SD card"
- Navigate to the desired backup folder if necessary, and tap "Paste here"
Backing Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:
- Connect the Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus to your computer via USB
- Swipe the "Status" bar down and under "Connected as" mark the "Media device (MTP)" check box
- On the computer in the AutoPlay window, click to "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer"
- Navigate to the "Card" directory, representing the SD Card
- Locate the desired files and copy them
- Paste the files in the backup location on your computer's HDD
- Once the transfer is done, safely disconnect your smartphone
Backing Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:
NOTE: Skip the first 2 steps if Kies is already installed on the Mac:
- Open the Internet browser on the Mac and visit Kies
- Click "Download for Mac OS" and follow the on-screen steps to install Kies on the Mac
- Connect your Galaxy S5 Plus to the Mac. Swipe the "Status" bar down and tap the "Media device (MTP)" check box
- Launch Kies on the Mac
- In Kies, click the "Back up / restore" tab
- Click the "Backup" tab if necessary
- Mark the check boxes associated with "Music", "Photos" and other types of media files you wish to back up
- Click "Backup"
- Once the transfer is done, eject the Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus and safely disconnect it from the Mac
