Sony Xperia Z3: Clear App Cache / Data; Wipe Phone Cache and Reboot in Safe Mode

Clearing an App's Cache / Data:



NOTE: In case one of your apps isn't working as intended then you could possibly fix these issues by clearing the app's cache. If that fails, you can also try and clear the application's data. WARNING! Clearing the app's data will result in the deletion of all personal information stored within it, including login and credit card information, saved games, high scores, profiles, settings etc. As such, it's recommended that you first try and clear the app's cache.




  1. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen

  2. Tap "Settings" and swipe to "Device"

  3. Touch "Apps" and swipe to the "Downloaded" or "All" screen

  4. Select the desired application

  5. Tap "Clear cache"

  6. If clearing the cache gave no results, tap "Clear data" and press "OK"




Wiping the Phone's Cache Partition:



NOTE: Assuming that your smartphone is not working as intended and you're thinking about master resetting it, then you might want to try and wipe the phone's cache partition first. Wiping the phone's cache can solve numerous issues without having to factory reset and lose all your personal data. To wipe the cache partition:




  1. With the smartphone turned on, press and hold the "Power" and "Volume Up" buttons

  2. Wait for the display to turn off and for the smartphone to vibrate three times

  3. When the smartphone's screen shuts off, release all the buttons

  4. The cache partition should now be wiped. Press the "Power" button to reboot your Xperia Z3 as you normally would




NOTE: If wiping the cache partition hasn't solved your issues then you might want to consider factory resetting it. Follow this link for a guide on master resetting the Sony Xperia Z3.



Safe Mode Management



NOTE: If you have downloaded a problematic third party application that prevents you from uninstalling it because it runs processes in the background, then you can easily dispose of the app by simply rebooting your smartphone in safe mode and uninstalling the app from there. In safe mode, third party application support is disabled.



Enabling Safe Mode and Uninstalling Apps:




  1. With the smartphone turned on, press and hold the "Power" button

  2. Tap and hold the "Power off" option

  3. At the "Safe Mode" prompt, tap "OK" and wait for your smartphone to reboot

  4. Once rebooted, your smartphone should display a "safe mode" label in the lower-left corner of the screen

  5. From the home screen, tap "Apps"

  6. Go to "Settings" and scroll to "Device"

  7. Tap "Apps" and swipe to the "Downloaded" screen

  8. Select the desired app and tap "Uninstall" > "OK"

  9. To exit safe mode, press and hold the "Power" button and tap "Power off". Then, press and hold "Power" to reboot your smartphone as you normally would
